Wildfire Dark Lager is back

From Cannery Brewing, by Kim Lawton

Penticton, BC. –  Wildland firefighters and emergency service workers are hard at work fighting forest
fires across Canada. As this year is predicted to be one of the worst wildfire seasons on record,
Penticton’s Cannery Brewing has brewed another limited release batch of their fundraiser Wildfire
Dark Lager.
Ian Dyck, Cannery Brewing co-owner explained, “We are so grateful to the wildland firefighters and
emergency service workers that we desperately rely on to bravely fight the wildfires in the Okanagan,
throughout BC, and across the country. As a tribute to those that work so hard to fight these
fires, we have released our Wildfire Dark Lager again this summer.”
As in previous years, to further acknowledge the work of these brave men and women, Cannery
Brewing has partnered with the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation (www.cfff.ca) and will
provide a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this beer to the Canadian Fallen Firefighters
Foundation.
Ian continued, “Our Wildfire started out as a one-time limited release beer, but due to ongoing
requests, it has now become an almost annual tradition. As we have with each batch of Wildfire beer
over the past 10+ years, we are honoured that this fundraising beer helps support the very important
work of the CFFF. Those that fight these fires are putting themselves in danger every single day to
keep us all safe. The CFFF works hard to honour and remember those that have died in the line of
duty and to support their families.”
Wayne Jasper, Deputy Fire Chief (retired) and CFFF Ambassador is grateful to partner with Cannery
Brewing again this year. “On behalf of the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation (CFFF), it has been
an honour to have partnered with Cannery Brewing for more than 10 years with their Wildfire beer.
Their generous donations of a portion of the proceeds have gone towards the CFFF’s goals to Honour,
Remember and Support those Canadian firefighters that have died in the line of duty and their
families. We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to everyone at Cannery Brewing for their
ongoing support.”
Ian describes the Wildfire as follows, “Wildfire Dark Lager is a light, refreshing North American Lager
with additional flavour and complexity from a darker malted barley. It features Weyermann
SINAMAR® which is produced solely from the roasted malt CARAFA® for an intense dark colour with
minimal roasted bitterness. The addition of flaked corn brings out the crispness of this North
American Lager.”
The 2023 Wildfire has a gorgeous new label, thanks to Penticton-based illustrator and designer, Skyler
Punnett. “The intention behind the Wildfire illustration was to capture the moment a firefighter
enters the intensity of a forest fire, with all the danger and risk that involves. The burning forest is
their office, and that danger is ever-present. That’s what I wanted to capture with this design,”
explained Skyler.
Wildfire Dark Lager is available now in Penticton at Cannery Brewing and at select liquor stores
throughout BC and Alberta. For a full list of locations carrying the Wildfire, click here. This limited
release is sure to fly off the shelves again very quickly. Once it’s gone, it’s gone again for another year.
