Since day one, India Pale Ale has been the definitive style of North American craft beer culture, and its big hoppy, malty flavour was the statement of purpose which differentiated craft from the mass-produced lagers of big beer. Again this August, Donnelly Group will celebrate the IPA with its fourth annual 30 Days of IPA festival which showcases a different IPA from a different craft brewery every day of the month.

The format is simple: on its day, each IPA will be tapped at opening time in one of 10 participating Donnelly Group locations and will be poured and featured until it the keg or cask is empty. With a wide range of IPA styles, from fruit-infused and to wild yeast-fermented beers to casks and white IPAs, the full spectrum of IPA flavours will be showcased during the month.

Highlights from the month include Green Flash Tangerine Soul Style IPA (Friday August 5 @ Butcher & Bullock), Boulevard Single Wide IPA (Friday August 12 @ Clough Club), Firestone Walker Luponic Distortion IPA (Monday August 15 @ Butcher & Bullock), and the only keg in Vancouver of Driftwood Raised by Wolves (Monday August 29 @ New Oxford). In addition IPA casks from Moody Ales, Torino and Moon Under Water are set to be poured.

Of course, August has 31 days and the finale of the month will be the 31st IPA and the tapping and pouring of Brooklyn Brewery’s Defender IPA at Blackbird Public House on August 31st. This exceedingly rare beer which took eight months to procure, is a collaboration with New York Comic Con and is the official beer of the convention.

Donnelly Group Bar & Beverage Director Trevor Kallies works throughout the year tracking down a collection of the best and rarest IPAs being brewed in North America. “This is our fourth year and there’s no sign yet that we’ve even begun to run out of new, interesting, and delicious IPAs to pour. This year brings a number of new participating breweries, as well as some beers not only never before poured by Donnelly Group, but anywhere in Vancouver.”
