It has been quite the unusual year in Northern BC. Normally there would be craft beer festivals taking place. To counteract the COVID-19 blues, people are finding new ways to engage in the spirit of community, collaboration and craft.
It took most of the 30 years since What’s Brewing was first billed as “The Magazine of the Campaign For Real Ale British Columbia” for craft brewing to take off in Prince George and Northern BC as a whole.
BC CRAF-TACULAR
This has been a spectacular year for craft beer in Northern BC. All in all, when it comes to craft as a whole, I think that the macros will never replicate or beat BC craft beer.
As the grip of Winter has officially taken hold of Prince George and Northern BC, there is much to celebrate in the Northern Craft Beer hub.

Summer is usually the busiest season for a tasting room and brewery, but tourism-related visitor numbers in North Central BC took a hit in 2017 due to road closures and travel cancellations. The reason: the single worst year for forest fires in British Columbia’s history.
Last year we did a really comprehensive tour of the Okanagan and Interior that we documented in a giant 3-part series called Staycation BC. At that point, we had been to most regions of BC for beer. This time we planned to cover the final frontier: Northern BC, home to a string of pearls along Yellowhead Highway 16.
