It Takes a Village to Praise our Heroes, says Phillips Brewing
Last year, Phillips Brewing & Malting Co and Vancouver Whitecaps FC partnered up to release a beer called Villager. Today, in light of COVID-19, Phillips Brewing announced this year’s fundraising collab.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Phillips Brewing and Carson Ting have collaborated to launch a limited-edition dry-hopped wheat beer called Village Hero, created to fundraise for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
The beer’s label design features Carson Ting’s famed It Takes A Village artwork, which pays homage to Vancouver’s 7 p.m. community cheers for the frontline heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Phillips Brewing notes, “This special release craft brew is bright, crisp, and refreshing. It has all the hops and flavour of an IPA, but all of the lightness and drinkability of a blonde ale or American wheat ale. Low ABV makes for some easy, easy drinking.”
The Whitecaps launched the charity art piece a month ago and raised over $100,000 inside the first two-and-a-half days for the Food Bank’s much-needed benefit.
“We are so excited to be able to help out and bring beer to the party that the Whitecaps and Carson Ting have started with the It Takes a Village project,” said Matt Phillips, owner of Phillips Brewing. “The Village Hero craft brew is bright, crisp and refreshing. It has all the hops and flavour of an IPA but all the lightness and drinkability of a blonde ale or an American wheat ale. Cheers to the frontline heroes working to keep us safe.”
“We are so proud of our partners at Phillips Brewing. This organization personifies the community spirit of Vancouver; from creating PPE and hand sanitizer as this pandemic unfolded to helping our city salute our frontline heroes and feeding our most vulnerable citizens. It’s so inspiring,” added Mark Pannes, Whitecaps FC chief executive officer. “To build upon the incredible piece by Carson Ting and produce this limited-edition craft beer to support the food bank shows how innovative and engaged they are.”
“It’s been an amazing experience working with Whitecaps FC, Phillips Brewing, and fellow creatives to do good for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank,” said Ting. “I hope this artwork serves as a reminder of the unity, cheer, and hope that came from Vancouver despite these times. To all the frontline workers, this is for you.”
