With more than 30 breweries in Calgary and more set to open, Alberta just might be one of the most exciting places on the planet to visit right now.

It’s a snowy, drizzly Sunday afternoon in Calgary, but inside the Dandy Brewing Company, the atmosphere is warm and friendly. The tables are filled, and the air has that sweet delicious aroma that can only be found when someone is making beer.

We pick out a couple — my favourite is Theatre and Mythomania, a Belgian-style strong ale made with hibiscus — and continue on our journey, after taking some Instagram-worthy pics of the quirky art by local artist Kelsey Fraser.

“So many breweries, so little time,” my travelling partner (and designated driver) says with a laugh, as he stuffs the bottles in the trunk of the car.

He’s right. We could visit a brewery an hour today and still not see them all. I’m doing my best to cram in what I can.
