Slackwater Brewing & Community Raise $15,000 for Apex Fire Brigade Society

August 16, 2022: The Apex Community came together at Slackwater Brewing on Sunday, August 7, to raise funds for the Apex Fire Brigade. Money raised will aid in funding efforts and resources to help battle the Keremous Creek Fire.

The brewery was packed with guests on Sunday afternoon and throughout the evening to support the worthy cause. Donations from across the community, and live entertainment provided by several talented local musicians managed to raise a staggering $15,000!

“I grew up skiing at Apex, I got married at Apex, and our children will grow up enjoying Apex mountain each year. Seeing our community come together in such a short time frame was overwhelming. As soon as we put the event live on Facebook, donation offerings started pouring in from local businesses. ” – Kelsey Peyton, Co-Founder, Slackwater Brewing

Molly Raine, Fire Prevention Officer with Apex Volunteer Fire & Rescue says, “The members of the Apex Fire Brigade Society and Apex Volunteer Fire Rescue would like to thank you all for the continued support throughout the Keremeos Creek Fire. Your support and appreciation always makes our job easier and more fulfilling. These have been very long days for our crew but knowing we have this incredible community to protect is what keeps us going.

To Slackwater Brewing (Kelsey, Liam & team), those who donated items to the silent auction and entertainers, thank you… thank you… THANK YOU!! It takes a lot of coordination to plan an event like this and you did it without a sweat. Every hour and dollar donated helps the department serve our community.

With this money raised, we will be using it to support our crew with any immediate supply needs and we will put any leftover money towards purchasing a wildland slip-on skid unit for our pick-up truck. What does this mean for our community? We will be better able to support you in the event of another forest fire. A full sized truck with this skid unit can be staged and used for pumping, supporting sprinkler operations or direct initial attack.”

Slackwater Brewing and Apex Fire Brigade Society would like to thank all of our musicians who donated their talents and time, and all of the local businesses and individuals that contributed to the event.
