Canada Beer Cup Competition returns for a second year

Canada – March 23, 2023. After a successful inaugural competition last fall, the Canadian Craft Brewers Association has announced that the Canada Beer Cup will return for a second year, with entries set to open April 2023.

The inaugural event awarded bronze, silver and gold trophies in 71 categories, with the “Best in Show” Canada Beer Cup trophy won by Callister Brewing for their Wee Laird Wee Heavy. Last year’s event boasted a top tier judging panel of highly acclaimed international and Canadian judges including Maurizio Maestrelli, John Holl, Jay R. Brooks and Kate Bernot, overseen by head judge Stephen Beaumont. The Canada Beer Cup aims to maintain a standard of excellence by bringing in top tier judges once again in its second year.

“The support from breweries in the inaugural year of the competition surpassed our expectations, and we are excited to bring about a second year of the Canada Beer Cup” says Hilary Hoogsteen, Canada Beer Cup Competition Manager. This year’s event aims to build on last year’s success of over 1300 entries from 200+ breweries, encouraging breweries to put their ‘best beer forward’. As a new addition to the competition this year, the winner of the Canada Beer Cup trophy will also be awarded an entry into the 2024 World Beer Cup® competition.

“We were thrilled with the reception that the competition received in its first year, and look forward to building on our early success in our second year” says Christine Comeau, Executive Director of the Canadian Craft Brewers Association.

Coined ‘The Industry’s Own Competition’, all proceeds from the Canada Beer Cup go back into supporting the industry. “The Canada Beer Cup competition aims to provide stability for the Canadian Craft Brewers Association to further its lobbying efforts and Inclusion and Anti-Discrimination Committee work” says Chloe Smith, chair of the Canada Beer Cup Committee.

Continuing their support for a second year, Gallagher is the Platinum Sponsor of the 2023 Canada Beer Cup. “We are delighted to be supporting Canada’s craft brewing industry as the Canada Beer Cup’s 2023 platinum sponsor. Like the CCBA, we want to help independent craft breweries succeed. We do so by providing a variety of insurance, risk management and employee benefits programs tailored specifically for the industry. Our partnership means we’re able to offer Gallagher’s global strength at a local level, with strong local representation,” says Andrew Hosie, Vice President, Strategic Growth with Gallagher.

The 2023 awards are set to take place in Niagara Falls, Ontario in conjunction with the Ontario Craft Brewers Conference. This year, part of the entry fee will support Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts.

Breweries can head to www.canadabeercup.com in April to submit their entries.
