Unless you live under a rock, you likely are aware that Great Canadian Beer Fest is taking place in Victoria this weekend. After 26 years the festival has grown so big that there are so many unofficial satellite events taking place that its pretty much a beer week now.
Things kick off tonight, as Spinnakers brewpub hosts a release party for their new Framboise sour, featuring several rare barrel-aged beers and guest taps from their favourite BC breweries.
The head over to Smiths, where they are hosting a Coal Harbour / Doan’s / Yellow Dog tap takeover. These three breweries aren’t pouring at GCBF, and will be bringing several rare beers with them.
For bonus points, stop in at Garricks Head / The Churchill, where they will have 10 unique casks from breweries pouring at the festival.
On Friday and Saturday, it’s the main event. This year’s Great Canadian Beer Festival features a vastly expanded lineup of breweries from across Canada, including a fantastic selection of brews for everyone from the casually interested to the most dedicated beer nerd.
Also on Friday and Saturday, the Drake is hosting their 3rd annual Little American Beer Festival. It’s pretty much the antithesis of GCBF, with tons of amazing beers from an all-American line-up of breweries.
After the festival on Saturday, Smiths is hosting a a tap takeover with Quebec’s Brasserie Dunham and Dieu du Ciel, then Moon Under Water is hosting an unofficial after party, featuring taps from three breweries pouring at the festival.
If you’re not heading over to the Island, make sure to go to Darby’s Gastown’s for Persephone Brewing’s 5th anniversary bash on Saturday. Then next week, Portland Craft is hosting a tap takeover by Colorado’s Left Hand Brewing on Wednesday.
If you see me out at any of the Victoria events, be sure to say hi!
