Brewery birthdays, cask festivals, tap takeovers, coffee beers, barrel-aged beers—it’s all happening this week! Expect to see me at  several of these events!

On Friday night Taylight Brewing in Port Coquitlam is hosting a cask battle. They will be pouring six mystery casks from six different breweries. Drinkers are encouraged to vote for their favourite cask and the winner will be announced the next morning.

Saturday brings the third annual Hopwired Festival to the Croatian Cultural Center in Vancouver. Featuring local, national, and international craft beer and third-wave coffee, Hopwired encourages partnership between craft beer and coffee roasters. Patrons at the event will be able to taste the beer, and also the coffee that’s been used in that beer alongside their partner brewery.

After you stumble out of Hopwired all buzzed on coffee, use that energy to head up the road to Andina Brewing, where they will be throwing a third anniversary party. They will have great beers and food, games, door prizes, and live music.

Coincidentally, Tapworks Brewing in Gibsons turns three that same day. Their event is being billed as a taco and beer party with live music throughout the day.

In Penticton on Saturday, Slackwater Brewing is holding their first annual OK Cask Fest, where they will be inviting brewers from across the Okanagan to bring their best cask ales.

Next Friday, Victoria Beer Week lifts off with a special tasting event where you have a chance to sample 12 brand new, unreleased beers from some of BC’s finest craft breweries.

On Saturday, the Drake is hosting their annual Magnificent Six event, celebrating beers from the breweries that supported them from the start: Dageraad, Four Winds, Steel & Oak, Moody Ales, Powell, and Brassneck.

Vic Beer Week continues on Saturday night with All About the Wood, a fantastic event that celebrates wood-aged ales, including sours, barley wines, imperial stouts, wild ales, and more.
