Attention Fresh Hop Co-Op participants!

Since the summer is winding down and harvest time is fast approaching, we’ve set the date for our community hop intake! Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 22!

By this day, all the beautiful hop cones your plants are currently producing will be nice and ripe and ready for the picking.

Everything turned into us in those few hours will be bagged and weighed, then thrown right in to the fresh hop brew, happening on the same day! It just doesn’t get any fresher than that…

Please note that we cannot accept any late harvests!

If you cannot make it in on this date, but you would still like to turn your harvest in to us, please let us know as soon as possible so we can help to you make alternate arrangements.

See you soon!

*A little refresher on this project:
Perhaps the only thing we love more than making delicious craft beer is the Cowichan Valley’s outstanding community.

3 years ago, an amazing team of brewery staff (lead by the talented Zach Blake) trekked out into the forest and brought back a generous set of root crowns and rhizome cuttings from a number of wild hop plants that are naturalised to our beautiful Cowichan Valley. These cuttings were potted and cared for by our team and then given out to members of the community as plants in hopes of starting up a lasting co-operative that would result in an extremely tasty and unique fresh, wet-hopped beer.

Last year’s harvest came in at an unreal 46 pounds of hop cones donated by the community! We also had a super-fun launch party with all the participants after the beer was fully conditioned, giving out some exclusive Co-Op wearables while we were at it.

We expect this year to be even more successful and look forward to partnering with an awesome hop farm in Cedar to help meet our need for new plants, as well as the well-known Cowichan Green Community to lend us a hand (and a green thumb or two) with our community outreach efforts.
