Las Estrellas Mariachi de Vancouver at Strange Fellows Brewing

In the spirit of celebrating all souls, both living and dead, we are thrilled to have Las Estrellas – Vancouver’s only all-female Mariachi band – back to serenade us at Strange Fellows.

Across many cultures, it is believed that autumn is when the barrier between our world and the afterlife is at its thinnest, and spirits from the other side come to visit. Welcoming them with music, food and drink is a way to celebrate lost souls, and so while the violins are tuning, our brewers are busy preparing a cask of Chipotle and Chocolate Stout to honour them with.

Lest you be mistaken as someone who is ready for the afterlife, best wear a disguise to confuse the wandering spirits among us! We at least will recognize you as someone who deserves a free beer, whether it be your last in this life or not. (read: a free beer for those in costume)

All ages welcome!

Formed during the summer of 2014, Mariachi Las Estrellas is comprised of a diverse, talented, and dedicated group of women musicians from a variety of backgrounds, including players from classical, jazz and world music. While all of them are involved in a variety of different projects, they came together out of their common love for mariachi music. Traditionally the musical stomping ground of men, with the songs reflecting the male perspective, the rise in all-female mariachi groups here and in other locales reflects an empowering movement in the music form. The ensemble’s goal is to explore, in depth, the music of Mexico, a culture rich and varied in its musical traditions.

Strange Fellows is an East Vancouver craft brewery inspired by tradition and creativity that celebrates the strange and extraordinary. We invite you to celebrate our community with us each month as we observe a different Strange Day, inspired by obscure superstitions and folklore from around the world.
