The friendly neighbourhood folks behind What’s Brewing are unique in that we are a group of volunteers generating original, journalistic, BC-craft-beer-focused content on a regular basis.
What’s Brewing originated as a newsletter with craft beer news, events and stories. In that tradition we proudly offer ongoing online content including our Newsroom, Events Calendar and HopLine e-newsletter, curated by our Communications Director, Monica Frost. Then, every three months, we feature original beer community submissions as well as reprints of work written by professionals and well-known bloggers. Some of those contributors are named below. Editor & Publisher
A craft beer fan since the late 1990s, Dave eventually turned his attention toward writing about his hobby. Being a Web publishing strategist by trade, he saw a place for What’s Brewing as a digital magazine and resurrected the publication in 2015. Along with wife Ivana, he travels Cascadia as half of the beer duo BeerSeekers. Dave is a member of the BC Association of Travel Writers.
Strictly speaking–and he does speak strictly sometimes–Mr. Morris is more than an editor to What’s Brewing. As detailed in this profile of the new-generation WB, the magazine as you know it today wouldn’t be here without this former CAMRA Vancouver VP. When not scouring the written submissions for imperfect composition, he’ll be found enjoying a cask ale at The Whip.
Brian K. Smith
Brian K. Smith, MPA is an accredited member of the BC Association of Travel Writers. He is a member of Professional Photographers of Canada with a Master of Photographic Arts designation. Better yet, he shoots the covers for What’s Brewing.
Beat Reporter & Evangelist
Stewart “Scottie” McLellan is a true BC beer community original. A key volunteer in CAMRA’s early days in Victoria, he’s been covering the BC beer beat for What’s Brewing since the very early days over 25 years ago. Widely known for his enthusiasm for this volunteer publication, Scottie is another key reason why WB continues to exist today.
