Two B.C. breweries were big winners at the recent World Beer Awards in London—and neither hails from Vancouver, which fancies itself the province’s epicentre of craft beer. Nanaimo’s White Sails Brewing took the world’s best black IPA category for its Snake Island CDA, and Revelstoke-based Mt. Begbie Brewing Co. claimed world’s best kolsch with its High Country Kolsch. White Sails previously won best-in-Canada honours for Snake Island, while Whistler Brewing Co. and Okanagan Spring Brewery did the same with their Black Tusk Ale (mild ale category) and Porter (strong porter), respectively.
