A short history of What’s Brewing

A short history of What’s Brewing

Actually this article is not really a history of What’s Brewing. If it were, it might surprise you how long that would get. One day we might (will) do that. But for now, we’re providing a few excerpts including a couple that were originally published on websites belonging to CAMRA BC and CAMRA Vancouver, plus articles from our archives. For those interested, they provide a peek into the history of BC’s first and longest-running beer enthusiast publication.

Beer Pairing Dinner at Howe Sound

For many, Squamish is a stop on the way to Whistler, or a day trip for hiking or mountain biking. But what do you do once the sun sets?

Each month, the Howe Sound Brewery offers a unique experience for craft beer fans – a beer pairing dinner. What is truly unique here is that in addition to the food and libations, the brewery has a hotel attached. While attending the four course beer pairing meal, you are eligible for a discounted rate for a night’s stay.

Where to drink on Remembrance Day in Vancouver

Scratching around for some Remembrance-Day-themed craft beer drinking inspiration, we found a fantastic story from 2010 about the 176 Branch Royal Canadian Legion Hall, also known as the Billy Bishop pub. On the pub’s website you’ll find this description: Located just one block from Kitsilano Beach on Laburnum Street north of Cornwall, the Billy Bishop Legion is the only true Neighbourhood Pub in the city.

YeastVan Beer Walk

YeastVan Beer Walk

This summer, I took a long-overdue trip down to‘Yeast Van’ to check out Callister Brewing and Doan’s Craft Brewing Company. Simply put, it was great to finally visit these two welcome additions to the neighbourhood. Cycling down to the area was a breeze with the two-way bike lane past the Cordova Diversion and over the new Powell street overpass. There are certainly other ways to get down to the area by bike, but coming from downtown, this was the best.
